Rising Sign what you see is not Always what you get

The rising sign is the front door to the natal chart. It is the ruler of the 1st house it is what people get when they don’t really know you.  It’s a façade, window dressing in a way. It’s the outer layer, it’s the shell, it’s the mask that protects the Sun sign. Not everyone is worthy of your Sun, maybe you are not comfortable expressing your Sun to everyone. My Gemini colleague always tells me: when you go on dates don’t send your representative. That’s the rising sign, your representative; the Sun is who you are.

In the book “The Rising Sign Your Astrological Mask” Jeanne Avery writes

“The Ascendant is interpreted as indicative of the individual’s personality as well as his appearance. It also indicates the circumstances of childhood”.

“it is the rising sign that indicates an individual’s particular outlook on life”

“It is how a person allows others to see him”

I have known this man for years and recently began dating him. And as we grew closer, I thought wow he is not who I thought he was or rather he is different then who I thought he was. I was talking about him to someone and she asked: what do you like about him and I spoke about how polite he is, I am not polite so the energy can be intriguing to me. And he pulls out my chair and opens my door and he can be very chivalrous and strong. He hardly curses, he takes charge in a way …I never have to plan a thing with him. She said oh you like all his Taurus traits. He has Taurus on the rise with a Gemini Sun.

For years I got his Taurus Ascendant, charming I would say nice. He can wear a paper bag and look good. Clothes just fall beautifully on Taurus rising, something about him seems refined and elegant. (Venus traits though more pronounced in Libra)

That’s how it works once he became comfortable with me, I got to see more of his natural self. He is funny and quick witted; his mind is vibrant. All those Gemini traits…but you know they can be hard to pin down energetically they aren’t like home body loving Taurus.

This isn’t to say he isn’t still chivalrous; he is and god knows in typical Taurus fashion he seems immovable and can be concerned with appearances. Venus ruled risings can be very much, “but what will the neighbors think”. He has commented on how I don’t care what anyone thinks.

Nope sure don’t. I have Aquarius rising.

The Loss of a Job and the rule of 3

Astrologically most astrologers like to see a confirmation in more than one area when making a prediction. I like to stick with the rule of 3 which I will demonstrate in this post. I had advised my friend I saw a change in job and perhaps some financial restraints a year prior to him losing his job. I didn’t predict him being terminated because he works in a Union related position (no he is NOT in law enforcement) and I will tell you he is innocent on every account and in the end, he chose to resign. I don’t want to get into it more but I do want to show you how

A few times I have been to events where people are using Full Moons to bring forth newness and I cringe, that is what New Moons are about.

Full Moons occur when the Sun is opposite the Moon they relate to endings, they signify being torn in 2 directions as the Full Moon is across 2 houses in the natal chart.

He was terminated when the Full Moon was on his Midheaven this is the house of career and reputation.

Also, Uranus planet of change and unexpected; things you do not see coming is squaring his Venus tight tight, the tighter the aspect the more it is felt. Uranus squared Venus the planet of money, located in his 6th house of work and Venus is the planet that rules his Midheaven (Taurus is on the 10th house cusp) in less than 1 degree. Indicating a shake up with money and career.

I think if Pluto had not just entered his 6th house of work this may have gone another way-Pluto in Capricorn rules “the man” power struggles, when Pluto is involved he is coming for your entire life. Pluto in the 6th doesn’t always = termination for some like Rob Kardashian it equals BIG health issues. I’m so tired of saying this but: you have to look at the whole chart. So, Pluto ruler of power struggles, placed in Capricorn sign of “the man” has just reentered his 6th house of employment, day to day activities, his routine. It forms an exact square to his moon indicating an emotional upset likely related to work.

Those transits alone could predict his job loss but I think the solar return (the true yearly horoscope) showed this entire situation with a lot less work.  The Moon and Uranus are placed in the 6th house of work. This almost always indicates a change in job. Where ever Uranus and the Moon are placed in the Solar Return chart you can expect a change.

Saturn often shows where we are blocked and restricted and it is located in his 2nd house of money earned.  When you lose employment, you want to look at the money houses as well.

His Progressed Moon is also in Capricorn-this indicates emotionally geared toward work and accomplishment, again this can indicate job changes. On the exact day he was terminated it entered his 6th house. For me; I quit smoking when it entered my 6th. The 6th house rules health, work and routine anything we do on a day to day basis.

During Mercury Retrograde in Capricorn in his 6th house of work while Pluto transited the 6th and conjunct his Venus he was able to submit his resignation and reach a financial agreement.

Predicting divorce and a little Ben and Jen

I noticed Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are in the tabloids again people are speculating for the 100th time after 10 years of marriage this time it is really over. Ben is off again on his own hitting the casinos, counting cards and enjoying some alone time. The man has the Moon in Scorpio (privacy) in his 5th house of gambling, betting and risk taking. This is his thing, will probably always be his thing no matter who he is with. The 5th house also rules sports and we all know he is a diehard Red Sox fan. No doubt he likely feels exposed when these reports surface, with Cancer Rising and the Scorpio Moon combined with all his planets below the horizon (in personal houses) and the only 2 planets above the horizon are in the 12th house of privacy this isn’t someone that wants to have his business out on front street. When I look at his synastry with Jennifer Gardner, I don’t see it. I don’t get it not on the paper in my hand and not when I see them. His feminine planets are in Scorpio and Cancer and the majority of her planets are in Gemini. Don’t get me wrong I never want to see him sprayed tan and emasculated standing beside Jennifer Lopez again but I don’t get this connection. Jen and Ben met when his progressed Moon was on his Descendent-when the progressed moon transits the 7th house it is likely you are ready for a relationship and Jens progressed Jupiter was conjunct her Descendent, she was also ready. But over the last several years while Saturn was in Scorpio Ben has had several hard transits to his Sun in Leo and Moon in Scorpio and once Saturn reenters Sagittarius it was pass over Gardners Gemini Moon, Venus and Mars. They won’t get a reprieve for a while.

The both of them also have Cancer Rising indicating they both have the same transits to houses for instance both of them now have Pluto digging its way through their 7th house of marriage and approximately 4 years from now they will have Saturn transiting their 7th. That can be the issue with having the same houses, who will be the partner to hold the others head above water if they are both drowning. When one is losing faith, it is likely so is the other! What’s that saying “the secret to a successful marriage is never falling out of love at the same time”. That is kind of hard to do when Pluto is knocking on both your doors simultaneously.

Hard times continue to be ahead for them and any relationship when you have outer planets (Saturn, Uranus, Pluto and Neptune) transiting the 7th house. But I don’t think divorce and break ups are an easy prediction. And I don’t think new astrologers should automatically assume divorce is a likely outcome when an outer planet enters a person’s 7th. After all people don’t necessarily stay married for some romanticized reason. Some people stay married for the children or in this case to avoid public scrutiny, some may stay together for the financial reasons…Bens Scorpio moon, Cancer rising and his Pluto in his natal 4th indicates he is very protective and dedicated to his family however dysfunctional that may be. Other couples stay together because the fear of the unknown is paralyzing. We do see this most with the fixed signs, Taurus, Scorpio, Leo and Aquarius and Ben Affleck has both, a fixed Moon and Sun. The natal potential of the individuals involved have to be taken into account. If for instance someone has natal Saturn conjunct Venus when Saturn transits their Venus this energy is familiar to them.

So instead of predicting the demise of a relationship lets prepare ourselves and others of what’s ahead

Saturn transits to Venus or through the 7th house

Shit or get off the pot, commit or quit, it’s now or never, for singles you want a permanent commitment. For married couples; love has become work. You are inundated with responsibilities-could be kids, could be career –could be you feel you are married to a nag. My ex said when Saturn was in his 7th house “if I knew marriage was going to be like a 2nd job I wouldn’t have done it” Marriage requires work when Saturn transits the 7th or your Venus. You may feel alone while married if you are single it is likely you feel lonely as well. Lessons in relationship, attracting karmic relationships, this brings huge tests. If your relationship is one that is rather dreamy and Neptunian Saturn’s visit to the 7th is like getting hit with a brick called reality

Uranus transits to Venus or through the 7th

Uranus is known as the planet of separation. I have seen this bring divorce, you want to be free, you have an affair, you are looking for excitement, you are searching for someone that is unconventional, you want to feel alive, you are smacked awake Singles attract Uranian types that are unlikely permanent. Married people may separate, or take on a side piece of ass. You can possibly divorce, or perhaps breathe new life into your partnership and/or redefine your relationship.

Pluto transits to the 7th

The superficial won’t do, digging deep, confronted with the darkest parts of your partnership all things Plutonian must be confronted, power struggles, secrets, the darkest parts of your relationship the stuff that lurks in the corner that you ignore demands to be confronted and only once you strip all the false pretense, dig deep to find your truth together and let go of all false pretense only then will your relationship die and be reborn. Survival is the theme, letting go of ego, of defining-what is-the ending of an era. For single people you attract Plutonian types, you become obsessed with someone unattainable, you get a stalker, you marry someone that wants to control your life, you long to discover the depths of someone. House of Cards Frank Underwood

House of Cards returns to Netflix on February 27 for season 3 and I will make sure I have a glass of Bordeaux and a comfy seat on the sofa for my binge. I love when shows assign fictional TV characters birthdates. Most of the time they accurately correspond with the character. Emily Thorne of Revenge is a Cancer, no one does revenge like a water sign, Olivia Pope is a Virgo the manner in which she operates always with precision. Claire Underwood is a dutiful though in her own right; power hungry Taurus and well Frank Underwood he is Scorpio born November 5, 1959.

Money, Power, Respect

The Sign of Scorpio naturally gravitates toward power and money. Scorpios are slow moving and calculating, natural rulers of the 8th house they rule death, transformation, power, other peoples resources; some Scorpio adjectives are secretive, manipulative, resourceful and obsessive. A Prominent Mars is common in those that have a military and/or an athletic background, the nature of Mars is competitive. Mars is the planet considered the God of War. According to Frank Underwood’s bio he attended the Military School: The Sentinel. And episode after episode we see him manipulating others to adhere to his will. You’ll notice his strength isn’t boastful; its quiet yet intimidating this is the nature of Scorpio. His Sun in Scorpio also conjoins Neptune in Scorpio as we know Underwood is one prone to underhanded deals, and promises with him are often made with fingers crossed behind his back. People may look to Frank to save them (also a trait of Neptune being a savior). He may seem to have all the answers and offer dreams of grandeur along with a seat some place beside him in the Oval Office. The Sun Conjunct Neptune individual has the ability to hide their true motivations this is only enhanced by Scorpios nature to always remain poker faced even when confronted with great catastrophe they will never show their hand.

Although we do not have his exact time of birth; the Moon was in Capricorn that day so naturally Frank gravitates towards an accomplished woman, one that is respectable, perhaps a woman that has the ability to enhance his status. The Moon is also representative of feelings; it is in detriment here so there is certain coolness, this isn’t a tender, expressive and affectionate person there is an austere vibe and a practicality to the Capricorn moon individual. Planets in Capricorn often ask will this work? Clearly his relationship with Claire works, she has sacrificed her own dreams to foster his, achievement is synonymous with Capricorn, as is reputation, and career .Claire clearly fits the bill. Underwood has Venus in Virgo (another planet in detriment both ruling feminine principals one would have to wonder what his childhood/mother was like) Venus square Saturn suggests coolness in relationships. The Venus/Saturn person doesn’t trust easily so they prefer a partner who is reliable and trustworthy above all else. We can clearly see him and Claire aren’t affectionate; they strategize, while smoking cigarettes sometimes electronic out the window. They are clearly committed despite their rendezvous with randoms (Scorpio after all rules sex and Neptune conjunct Mars isn’t particular about with whom)-but this isn’t the type of couple to kiss and hold hands and feed one another cake on a Saturday night. When Venus aspects Saturn there is no doubt a devoted quality, but love takes on a Capricorn vibe another indicator of love (Venus) and work (Saturn) somehow going hand in hand. I suppose they are working together hand and hand to get ahead.

It’s the story of a high powered extremely wealthy man by the name of Forrest Hays that was doing heroine-yes inject in your vein –heroine with a sex worker and overdosed on his luxurious yacht.  And now she-the escort is on trial for manslaughter for giving him the hot shot, the lethal dose that killed him. The hotshot  50+ something year old Hays chose to do.  I’m quite confident if he had been found in an abandoned building rather than on a $345,000 yacht no one would give two shits.

But Forrest Hays was wealthy, he lived in Silicon Valley, was married for over 17 years with 5 children (I can’t find a single picture of his wife and family), he worked for Google on a top secret project (no one will say what exactly he did there), he loved his yacht which he named “Escape”, and he obviously loved escourts and drugs as well. All of this was screaming NEPTUNE to me. Secrets, illusions, drugs, prostitutes, the yacht …Neptune rules water and boats let’s not forget the array of secrets.

Some people you read about and you know what to expect in their natal chart. When Betty Broderick killed Dan Broderick she had Pluto exactly conjunct her Sun. It was a given- all that hate, jealousy, rage, over an affair and financial issues. Other people I am like huh? When I looked at the chart most recently of wealthy murderer and cross dressing Robert Durst …his chart is an anomaly to me (perhaps because he himself is an anomaly). But the kiss of death and the Google exec, I knew Neptune had to be prominent in his chart and it certainly is.

Often people with a prominent Neptune aren’t seen clearly by others, they have this thin veil, this filter they are seen through and depending on who is looking they may be viewed as a sinner or saint. Hardly in between.

Sometimes people with a prominent Neptune particularly in the 1st house or on the Sun or on their Natal Moon aren’t sure of who they really are so how can anyone else know them?

In any event Forrest Hays had his Sun in Taurus opposite Neptune in Scorpio, with the opposition it is likely you will operate in two distinct manners. So I am sure Hays was all the Taurus Sun is, dutiful, working hard, building his empire, (lets not forget Taurus can be indulgent, they rule greed) so he was buying his homes, and he also on occasion wanted to do his Neptune thing, take his yacht out called Escape, be with his escorts he met on a Seeking Arrangement.  Neptune on the Sun and Moon also speaks of drug use, the desire to escape, the desire to merge with something beyond the mundane. The natal Neptune is also in Scorpio so I am sure she wasn’t his first secret sexual encounter.

His success can be attributed to his natal Sun square Saturn, this is a difficult aspect the person may suffer from low self-esteem , hereditary depression passed down from the father;  the way the individual overcomes this is by working, by accomplishing, by becoming the best in his or her field. They have a desire to achieve to feel validated. I do not want to undermine this aspect it is very challenging. The person feels they have to overcome barriers …the desire to achieve is strong and can be reflected in his 4.5 million dollar home and a dozen other things we will probably never know about, because Neptune opposing his sun will keep things hidden.

I would love to tell you what he did as a career but I can’t Saturn planet of work and structure is exactly square his Neptune (secrets) as one article stated

“Hayes then went on to Google for a high-paying job at their top-secret location, where impossible dreams are transformed into reality”

Poor Forrest Hayes, his family is probably wondering who he really was. He probably didn’t know who he really was. I think these stories can be a lesson for anyone that looks at other peoples’ lives and sees a perfect picture. You never know what is lurking below the surface, don’t let that thin veil of Neptune fool you

Neptune & The GOATS Nas, Tupac, Biggie etc

I watched Nas’ Time is Illmatic this week, it got me wondering how may GOATS (greatest artists of all time) particularly rappers have a prominent Neptune in their natal chart. For those of you that aren’t familiar with Neptune it rules:
• Dreams
• Psychic Ability
• Imagination
• Bodies of water
• Idealism
• Illusion
• Addictive elements; drugs to drinking
• Fortune Telling
• The Illuminati & other so called secret societies
• Art and Music
• Neptune rules Pisces and Pisces rules the feet so here we find dance

There is a strong desire with Neptunian individuals to make the intangible tangible. They often want to give form to their creative/ imaginative/idealistic dreams.
Neptunian individuals are often considered the sinner or the saint.
I have a prominent Neptune; located in my 10th house. People rarely see me clearly. Once while taking tennis lessons I was in a crabby mood (I am a cancer) and my instructor said “here Queen take the court” in a very rude manner. On the way home from tennis some lady at the supermarket accused me of stealing bottled water. LOL I said it’s a rare occasion that I get to be the sinner and the saint, the Queen and the pauper all in one day.
I understand that desire to give form to your dreams. I get that even growing up in the midst of a less then idealistic environment, the desire to chase dreams? To find that perfect landscape off in the distance.My Neptune in the 10th house forms a grand fire trine to my natal Moon and natal Saturn. I considered myself to be a realist while maintaining the belief that all things are possible. I feel you can wake up one day and change your entire life.
The GOATS have/had to think that, they had to believe in better days. They had to possess the ability to take a dream, an ideal and turn it into something real.

Nas has Neptune sextiling his Mercury, planet of communication we do not have his exact birth time but I do believe he quite possibly has Neptune on an angle (in the 1st, 4th, 7th and/or 10th house). To me he conveys this Neptunian idealism most outwardly in the lyric:
“open every door in Attica send em’ to Africa”
The entire “Street Dreams” album title to me is Neptune. Taking what you view around you, absorbing the elements and turning it into song
The Album entitled “Nastradamus” is so Neptune with Nostradamus ruling prophecy; prophecy/psychic ability being a Neptune thing.

I 100% feel he could have been a GOAT had he not suffered from apparent mental illness combined with drug addiction. Both the darker sides of Neptune. He has Neptune squaring his moon which is a highly creative aspect but plagued at times with difficulties such as the aforementioned.

Eminem also has a prominent Neptune; it is at the tail end of his 12th house conjunct his ascendant. Here we have another person that has had to deal with the positive and negative attributes of Neptune

Tupac had Jupiter conjunct Neptune, Moon trine Neptune, Venus opposite Neptune and several other Neptune aspects
Out of everyone I feel Tupac embodies Neptune most I saw him as a sort of prophet if we use the definition of prophet as “an effective or leading spokesman for a cause, doctrine, or group” odd as that may sound but I think he had a message to deliver and convey regarding certain social injustices. I think he falls under that Neptune veil of confusion people see him as either an artist or possibly as a criminal (he was convicted of sexual assault in the early 90s) , perhaps people saw him as violent having once hit a Director while filming a movie. And maybe he was ALL of those things a prophet, a sinner, an artist and a saint. Let us not forget The mysterious circumstances surrounding his death and his last album to be officially released prior to his death, entitled Makaveli.

Composite Pluto in the 6th house they call us Master Manipulators

I have come to realize a lot of people walk around this planet with a victim mentality (often Pisces Moon, Strong Neptune in the chart or lacking the fire element in the natal chart), they are always blaming someone else for their perceived misfortune, they cry when they do not get their way and they blame others for the way they feel.  First off I am thankful to not be one of these lifeless, glass ½ empty woe is me fools but it isn’t easy when those that feel powerless are continuously looking outside at others to blame for the way they feel.  Take ownership of your own energy and feelings thank you very muchJ

 

In any event someone referred to me and my colleague as “master manipulators” today this isn’t the first time we have heard it and it won’t be the last. We have worked together for 10 years our names are Dan and Danielle and people always put us together.  Our bosses and our coworkers “Dan and Danielle”as if we are one entity. A coworker even once complained we were a part of a gang. Seriously it’s pathetic and funny and yeah sometimes a little of both.

I had looked at our composite chart long ago to see what exactly is it about our relationship that is so binding.

Without a doubt our coworkers feel our Composite Pluto in the 6th house:

Pluto rules Power, transformation, extremes, life and death, creations and upheaval.

And the 6th house rules working environments, daily tasks and the people you work with.

Perhaps If we didn’t work together  this aspect would not be as challenging but with the Composite Chart ruling the way two people act as a unit,  essentially representing the energy of two people combined we are experienced as all those Plutonian adjectives within our work environment.  If we didn’t work together perhaps we would be heavy into fitness or feel overwhelmed by our daily tasks.

The composite chart is the chart of the relationship between two people and synastry is the way you experience and respond to one another.

In synastry his Mars in the fixed sign of Aquarius squares my Mars in fixed sign of Taurus. Mars wants to lead, direct, take charge and compete we often bump heads sometimes I feel he attempts to override me and dear god just the other day I screamed at him to stop imposing his “will” on me….so very Mars square Mars but when we are together when it is us and when we are living out our composite chart; we always have each other’s back against outside forces. Can you see the difference? In synastry we push each other’s buttons but in our composite chart it’s us against them or at least it’s perceived that way. Even when we do disagree people always assume we automatically are on the same side anyway. Another person I work with once remarked “the two of you always have each other” they said this with a tone that lead me to believe we always have each other…to the exclusion of everyone else which I found unsettling.

According to Robert Hand book Planets in Composite when Pluto is opposite the Sun “it is possible that together you may stir up opposition from other people” The Composite Moon squaring Pluto shows great emotional intensity as well as emotional upheaval and whatever is felt is indeed felt strongly. Ya know Pluto is all about extremes.  Hand writes, “It can create such a strong involvement between you that you cannot let go of each other for a moment”.

We are also often accused of “working behind the scenes to get our way” We have a composite Sun in the 12th house which is indeed a behind the scene house, it’s what you don’t see. And I do believe people do not see us clearly.  The 12th house is also the house of undoing and is naturally ruled by Neptune which in turns rules alcohol. Together we have been known to drink too much. Once I remarked to him we both can’t go out and be black out drunks. More than anything I feel we enable each other to over indulge to go ahead have that extra cake, stay out a little later buy that 10th winter coat.  We are prone to turn a blind eye to each others indiscretions and do so without judgment. The 12th house also rules past lives so I have no doubt that in another universe in another time we have known one another and that’s why we are bound in this one for better or worse, master manipulators or not.
