The Astrology of King Henry VIII & His Wives

King Henry

I recently began watching The Spanish Princess on Starz; it is based on the early life of Catherine of Aragon and the rocky path she traveled to become the first wife of Henry VIII and the Queen of England. The way the relationship is displayed on the show Catherine and Henry had a natural affinity toward one another.

According to the website: www.historyextra.com

“He adored her: she was, we are told, ‘the most beautiful creature in the world’. She was 23, plump and pretty, and had beautiful red-gold hair that hung below her hips. Henry spoke openly of the joy and felicity he had found with Catherine.”

I believe that Henry loved Catherine of Aragon – I believe she is reflected perfectly in his natal chart. Prior to comparing a couple’s synastry we have to look at each partners natal potential.

Henry’s moon sign was in the bold sign of the warrior; Aries. The Moon sign reflects what Henry needed and sought in a woman combined with Venus and the 7th house. When you google Catherine of Aragon; one of the first phrases to pop up are the words: Catherine of Aragon daughter of the Warrior Queen. (The moon also reflects how we experienced our mother)

You can read more about women with Aries Moon here:
ARIES MOON WOMEN AKA WARRIOR QUEENS

Catherine of Aragon

Catherine of Aragon was not some wife that was seen but not heard. She was the true embodiment of the Aries Moon attributes (she too possessed an Aries Moon) while Henry was off at battle it was her that he left in charge to command forces; serving as Regent. It is rumored she even put on Armor and was prepared to fight.  She was many things including a survivor having to live in “aristocratic poverty” in between her marriage to Arthur and Henry.

Henry also had Venus in Gemini; while many sites contribute this to his fickle love nature Venus in Gemini also strongly suggests he valued a woman that was intelligent and interesting. Catherine was highly educated and studied a variety of subjects from law to dance to genealogy and weaving to name a few. Her natal Mercury was in Sagittarius while this may be in detriment it does indicate someone that is high-minded. Some sites even state Catherine was a pioneer for women’s education.

Pioneer by the way is another Aries Moon adjective.

Henry has Venus elevated, you can see it all the way up near the Midheaven this does suggest a variety of things; marrying someone that can enhance your status is one manifestation. Venus in the 10th house is not the most comfortable of placements; it does suggest relationships have an element of formality.  Henry marrying Catherine was a Venus in the 10th house affair;  Henry had a lot to gain from being with Catherine considering Spain was a powerful ally.  I do believe this was a mutually beneficial relationship; Catherine had the Sun in Capricorn the Sun is what a woman seeks in a man and Capricorn is a sign that is concerned with status (though it has various ways of manifesting). His Sun also conjoins her Midheaven indicating this is a man she thought could assist her with accomplishing her worldly ambitions and life goals.

When we superimpose Henry and Catherine’s charts on top of one another we can see they have:

Moon conjunct Moon; this strongly suggests they had similar needs and can find they are at home with one another quite easily.

Henry’s Saturn conjoins Catherine’s Venus; this shows the coming together.  I have no doubt at all that this aspect alone strongly contributed to them enduring 24 years of marriage.

Catherine’s North Node (The North Node indicates where we are headed) falls in Henry’s 7th house which tells us this relationship was destined. This doesn’t necessarily indicate long term success but it does reveal that this connection is one that will assist both parties in terms of spiritual development.

abbe boleyn.jpg

When we look at Anne Boleyn natal chart she has Venus in Aries; here we  find another woman that is the embodiment of what Henry sought in a woman. When I google her I find an array of terms; a bitch, a feminist, bold, mean and ill tempered. Let me first say women with personal placements in Aries believe we can do whatever a man can do. We consciously or unconsciously make strides toward uniting the gender gap. With the Moon and Venus being feminine planets placed in Aries a masculine sign you can see how this manifests.

I will say this as well about Aries placements we are not necessarily moral but we are certainly selfish. Aries has a strong desire to be first. Venus in Aries has no desire to play 2nd fiddle to another woman.

While Anne had her natal Sun placed in slow moving Taurus she had a dignified Mercury in Gemini which would contribute to her being an interesting conservationist and someone that was quick witted.

Anne has 2 charts erected with different times of birth I am using the one that places the moon in Pisces as that is the one that makes sense based on the events that have taken place.

Anne had her Natal Sun in the 10th house similar to Catherine of Aragon  this is woman that wants a man that is “someone”. She is attracted to men that are in charge and have power.

Anne Boleyn had her natal moon in the dreamy sign of Pisces; her moon conjoined Henry’s Descendant. The Descendant represents the qualities we often reject in ourselves and seek in a mate. I live for 7th house overlays to be honest and though relationships can thrive without them I prefer to see them in synastry. When a person’s moon falls in our 7th house you desire to be emotionally close with them; this relationship is based on feelings. We have a sense of connecting with lost parts of ourselves when a person’s personal planets fall in our 7th house; it is a powerful connection.

When we look at the house overlays we also see

Henry’s Venus in Gemini conjoined Anne’s Mercury in Gemini I believe this is the aspect that strongly contributed to his desire to express his affection verbally through letters. When Mercury makes an aspect to another person’s Venus we enjoy speaking to them, with these planets being in Gemini I believe this element is strongly enhanced. Communication can even become flowery and romantic.

Henry’s Moon in Aries also formed an almost perfect conjuction to Anne’s Venus in Aries. I have personally had this aspect with someone (In Aries) and I can tell you it is romantic and affectionate. When the moon meets Venus the 2 parties can have a telepathic link with one another and a desire to dance, listen to music and enjoy life is strongly enhanced in one another’s presence.

If you read King Henry’s love letters to Anne you will find this aspect  speaks for itself.

anne of cleves.jpg

Anne of Cleves was the only other wife with a published date of birth. Henry had this marriage annulled and it is widely reported he found Anne of Cleves unattractive. I personally find her to be one of the more interesting of the women he married.  She was a Libra Sun oddly considering she never remarried. However that Libra Sun reports to her natal Venus in Virgo. Venus in Virgo can very much be the sign of the single woman. If we take a look at the 9 of Pentacles in Tarot; this is the card associated with Venus in Virgo. Here we find a woman in a lavish garden surrounded by all she needs.

Out of all the wives I think she made out best with homes, a full staff as well as financial compensation.  Most importantly she was not locked away or beheaded. We do not have Anne of Cleves birth time so I cannot tell in which house Henry’s Venus and Jupiter fall for her.  You will often find one person financially benefiting from another with hard Venus/Jupiter contacts or Jupiter/Venus falling in  the others 2nd or 8th house. I am not sure as to why she benefited from him nor can I say why he found her unattractive other than the fact that Anne of Cleves was a Libra Sun and Mercury. Libra is the sign opposing Henry’s Moon in Aries. With that being said her Sun formed an opposition to his Moon which strongly suggests this was a Karmic connection. Perhaps with her natal Jupiter conjunct his natal Sun for reasons unbeknownst to us she manifested a level of generosity with in him. Jupiter has an expansive nature. Could it be that her Jupiter in Cancer conjoining his Sun in Cancer -the sign of family-was the reason she became known as “The Kings Beloved Sister”? Interesting to note Anne of Cleves Libra planets Sun, Mercury and Mars fell in the Kings natal 2nd house. The 2nd house is how and where we spend our money.

Aries Moon Women AKA Warrior Queens

This week I have been on a Showtime The Wire Binge; I fell in love with Snoop a female enforcer for the head drug dealer Marlo. She kills people with ease and does so quite regularly. While I don’t condone unnecessary violence ( I do close an eye at vigilante justice; pedophiles, rapists, George Zimmerman etc)  It really got me thinking as to why and for the 1st time I realized it must be my Aries Moon.

The Moon in a chart indicates your needs, what you like in a woman, it is a soft place, in a woman’s chart it rules her femininity, our emotions, our instinctual reaction, the manner in which we find comfort, it also represents how both men and women have experienced their own Mother.

Those with Aries Moons are said to have needs that went unmet in childhood. The Mom of Aries Moon children were too busy working most likely to tend to everything a child needed. Aries Moon children often have to do things themselves. I often joke with my boss who is also an Aries Moon about our childhoods.  It wasn’t surprising to learn she took the bus (public transportation) to school since she was 8. Those early years of learning to depend on only ourselves turn us into adults that can lack compromising skills.

Hey that’s why we have Libra Moons 😉

The feminine Moon finds difficulty when placed in the masculine sign of Aries. Aries rules young men, war, guns, battle, independence, force and courage.

The Moon or emotional state isn’t necessarily comfortable in the sign of the ram. This is the most feminine point in the chart placed in the most masculine sign in the zodiac.

Relationships with Aries Moons are usually hot and fiery, argumentative; they thrive in battle. They need that, they need friction and competition, and while we confuse our wants with our needs; we never really “need” anything or anyone. We will never settle for second best; Aries is after all the 1st sign in the zodiac.

I like to think of us as warrior queens. We emotionally go where others wouldn’t dare. And this must be why I like to see women doing things we are ordinarily accustomed to seeing men doing. This is the feminine principal in a masculine sign.  I feel a sense of admiration when women step into the role that is typically thought to be for that of a man. I confess I enjoy Snoop a female contract killer on TV, I like Olivia Benson running shit on Law and Order, my god I cringe when I watch Criminal Intent and the man solves all the crimes. I like seeing sexually liberated women, women that rap, women running a boardroom.

This brought me to look at some famous Aries Moons and I wasn’t a bit surprised that they are some heavy hitters.

Aries Moon Keywords: Independent, enterprising, courageous, trendsetter,  warrior, feisty, bold and pioneering

Synastry You dont attract what you want, you attract what you are…

In my late twenties I use to lie to myself and say “I want a calm normal relationship, why can’t I have a tranquil relationship. I use to lie to myself but I won’t dare lie to you today. I want a passionate partnership, I want my intensity dial turned up to 100, and I don’t have a clue what I would do with a “normal and tranquil” relationship. I guess that’s a good thing because they always elude me. In my natal chart I have an Aries moon, the moon is your comfort level Aries is the sign of the warrior.

Aries Sun Lady Gaga Sings in the song “Marry the Night” I’m gonna marry the night. I won’t give up on my life. I’m a warrior queen Live passionately tonight.

Just as the Cancer Moon finds safety at home, and Pisces moon may find religion or alcohol a comfort zone and a Libra moon needs to always be in a partnership, Scorpio moons destroy themselves, Virgo moons need to take care of others well Aries moons need battle, conflict, we find comfort in doing battle. We need the rush, the highs…there is simply no changing or denying that. My moon opposes my Pluto in the 8th house and Squares my Sun in the 5th.  Complicated order! Pluto on the Sun and Moon is not for the faint of heart. Relationships involve dominance, control, possession, issues surrounding jealousy and shared resources.

I laugh thinking I wanted a light love, a tranquil love. I didn’t know who I was in my late 20’s.  It is only over the last several years I have come to terms with who I am….or at the very least attempting too come to terms with who I am. Warrior Queen sounds about right

I saw an ex of mine, the last time I saw him was 7 years ago. I actually see him in 7 year intervals for most of our lives. He is important to me; he is someone that holds significance. He said to me something I always say to other people; real love doesn’t really die. If it is genuine it lives on. Ahhh god nothing like those loves in your youth.

While looking at his chart I could see the glaring similarities between us, but it made me wonder if we should seek out partnerships with those that are similar to us or those that can balance us?

I have been wondering about the relationships we form with people that inadvertently bring out our worst traits; whether that be our insecurities, over indulgence, or possessiveness.  Or what about those whos worst traits mirror our own more difficult attributes.

In synastry it is often said you find comfort in dating someone with the same moon sign. And I have always said I can’t date another Aries moon because we will kill one another. I mean who will take a step back, who will be the reasonable one?

I looked at my Leo ex’s chart and he has an exact moon square mars; this is very similar to having an Aries moon. Hot headed, emotionally impulsive, with a short fuse. He himself like moi, is attracted to relationships that involve conflict and battle.

It was many years ago that we were together and things fell apart do to his imposing his will on me. He would actually tell me “my will is stronger than yours”

In Synastry my Mars squares his Sun; this is where aggression (mars) and will power (mars) meets his ego and identity (my sun). The other day he remarked I try to overpower him. I assure you I don’t; this is simply how he receives me.

However Sun square Mars is a very combative aspect in synastry, one that I think may even negate a lot of beautiful synastry, we have major 7th house overlays my Venus and Mars fall in his 7th and his Sun, Venus, Mercury and Mars fall in my 7th. Obviously this is indicative of an important relationship; but never forget the 7th house rules partnership and open enemies.  Love gone wrong often becomes hate.

I have natal Mars in the 3rd; the 3rd house rules communication. Mars is the planet of aggression. I am blunt and direct in speech, people always say I am the most direct and honest person. If you don’t like me you will probably say I am rude.

My Leo ex has Mars conjunct Mercury; this is the same sort of dynamic simply in another form. Our Mercury’s correspond to one another nicely and I actually find him very funny; he is more direct then me which I find immensely refreshing. But would I want to argue with him, probably not we are both very assertive and go for the jugular. Who would take a step back and be the voice of reason?

So many things have crossed my mind lately; mostly the quote “you don’t attract what you want; you attract what you are”.

For so long I wondered why normal and serene relationships alluded me, and now I have the answer  perhaps because I am not a tranquil and serene person myself.

Mostly I think we can use astrology when relating to others; we can pinpoint the areas in relationships that will be a source of contention and bring them to light. Maybe and I do mean MAYBE in warrior relationships you can take turn yielding to one another. What do you think visit me on twitter and let me know? Should we avoid relationships with those that are similar? Do we need to find our opposites to find a balance?

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Brandi vs. Joyce Round 1

Brandi

brandi glanville

Without a time of birth I’m going to assume Brandi moon sign is in the sign of the warrior, Aries. If she was born prior to 4pm she would have a Pisces moon; sympathetic and dreamy An Aries moon on the other hand is direct, forceful, blunt, I have this placement we can be forceful not everyone can handle this. It gives an odd dichotomy to her Scorpio Sun, which is secretive, private, in search of control, protective. Mercury planet of communication was retrograde when Brandi was born in its sign of detriment no less, Sagittarius. This in itself may make it hard to communicate, opposing her natal Saturn planet of Karma and rules I have no doubt she has told a number of people to go fuck themselves. This isn’t a meek woman, with her Moon in Aries opposite Pluto she will likely come face to face with many women, need to take her power from women and show who is top dog. Venus planet of love and finances is conjunct wild card Uranus indicating unusual romances will be a theme in her life as will sudden marriages and just as quick divorces. It is likely she will often be privy to sudden windfalls in terms of money and just as quick; loses. I think it is safe to say she does have some issues with alcohol with Neptune making an aspect to most of her personal planets Neptune after all is the planet of escapism, addiction, though this also the reason she was most likely a model as it adds a certain mystique and glamour. Neptune conjunct the sun often brings father issues perhaps he himself had addiction issues or you see him as some god like figure. In any event women with Neptune on the sun need to be careful as to who they chose to partner with this is highly indicative of picking up addicts, swindlers and conartists. The upswing being with creative types, actors, perhaps musicians.

Now here we have Joyce
joyce giraud

An Aries Sun, similar to Brandi’s moon, she is combative, forceful, direct Aries Suns want to be first, they want to be known as special; this is like 2 rams battling. Personally Aries moon trumps the Aries sun in feisty and forcefulness because while the sun attributes are often learned the moon is instinctual. It is obvious to the naked eye that Joyce cannot mentally spar with Brandi; she cannot go wit for wit. Unlike Brandi with her Sun conjoining Neptune, Joyce has Sun square Saturn… this doesn’t make for a life of the party. Often the Sun square Saturn person has a history of depression inherited from the father. They often marry for financial reasons and security and feel they have to work twice as hard as everyone else to get ahead. Joyce moon is in the moons sign of detriment, Capricorn concerned with achievement and stability. Her mother may have been the father figure in the home. Her moon which represents the women in her life is square wildcard Uranus. Whereas Brandi may wrestle or fight for power or dominance with women (Notice she felt Lisa somehow was controlling her) but with Joyce square to Uranus, this isn’t a “girls girl placement” This is a women that perhaps wasn’t nurtured as a child, can be emotionally cold and distant, has erratic an inconsistent relationships with women.

The Issues, drama and the synastry
Brandi Sun in Scorpio is opposite Joyce Venus in Taurus AND Vice Versa (Double whammy) Joyce Sun in Aries is opposed by Brandi Venus in Libra
The Sun is your identity, how you present yourself when opposite another person’s Venus which is related to values, aesthetics this indicates that Brandi most likely finds Joyce superficial (Venus in Taurus) and Joyce doesn’t care for the way Brandi presents herself (Sun in Scorpio)

Brandi Sun in Scorpio is opposite Joyce Mars in Aquarius
If this was a love affair the disagreements would be epic. The Sun is how you shine the manner in which you present yourself, the way you say ta-da and here comes Mars challenging your identify, pushing you, agitating you

Brandi’ Moon conjoins Joyce Mercury
When the moon (emotions) is in aspect to another person’s Mercury (logic) it is difficult o maintain balance. Conversations become emotional; it is difficult to take a step back. Even if the moon person (In this case Brandi) wants to maintain some emotional distance it is likely the Mercury person experiences the moon person as being emotional

Brandi moon is opposed by Joyce’s Pluto no doubt Brandi feels threatened and challenged by Joyce. I’m not saying she is jealous, but something about Joyce threatens her security. Recently Brandi made mention that because of some comments Joyce made Brandi could’ve had her children taken away. The moon is the mother; Pluto can be ruthless on the moon, the moon person can feel exposed by the Pluto person.

No Love Lost here
Brandi Venus in Libra is squared by Joyce Saturn in Cancer
Venus is love, money and affection you never want someone’s Saturn on your Venus. I’m sorry I’m just putting it out there. Saturn is too cold, ridged and miserly on Venus. Saturn is concerned with what’s right, Saturn is the planet of rigidly No wonder she didn’t get in the pool at the pool party. Ha!
Brandi Mars in Scorpio Squares Joyce Moon in Capricorn, similar to the sun mars opposition only in this case Joyce feels emotionally poked at by Brandi, she feels Brandi is an instigator.

I’m not a fan of either, if I had to choose one I would take Brandi. Joyce bores me. But I must say the more I study astrology and synastry I realize that rarely is someone a “bad person”, we just have less than ideal synastry with people. This is a case where I would suggest they leave one another alone. This may be hard for Joyce seeing how she is so dull; she needs to riel up Brandi for some camera time. Xo

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber

selenaimagesimages1imagesCAXXBP5R
With so much of Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber breaking up to make up in the media I had to look at their synastry. When I told my Libra friend I was going to look at their astrology and remarked that I like the two of them together, she asked me why? And quickly added they are like Rihanna and Chris Brown Part Two! I enjoy a young love, here is the thing when you are young you can date someone just because; you don’t have to think about how the rest of your life is going to be, if you like his mother, if his friends like you, do you want children together, does he have a 401k and company stock options. When you are young you simply can date just because, he is cute, she is fun, you like the same music. I enjoy watching young love. Too bad they don’t realize that this is the easiest time in their entire lives it only gets harder with age
So let’s take a quick peek at this apparently on and off again duo.

The beautiful Selena Is a Cancer Sun with an Aries Moon; I have the same combination. We can be emotionally volatile. There is an inner struggle; the cancer sun says I need you, prone to possessiveness, neediness, let’s stay home and nest whereas the Aries moon in emotionally impulsive prone to what my coworkers dubs: The Novella Syndrome Ya know like the Spanish soap operas, yelling and storming out, I love you one minute and I can’t stand you the next. She is stronger then she looks, I would say she is actually the stronger of the pairing.
Justin is a Pisces Sun with a Libra moon. Pisces sun can benefit from a strong partner, look at Rihanna also a Pisces Sun she is attracted to the stronger and more dominant partner, Chris Brown. Pisces Suns are impressionable and can be easily led astray; they can get involved with some unscrupulous people. Guess that explains some of Justin’s recent behavior, hanging around the wrong crowd and I believe allowing less successful entertainers to take advantage of him. He has a Libra Moon he requires partnerships, he is happiest when involved with someone, he seeks cooperation and balance.
Selena and Justin’s Suns their identities are both water based, intuitive, psychic and YES emotional! There Moons however oppose each other her fiery Aries moon the sign of independence, newness and adventure opposes his Libra moon, need for cooperation, harmony and balance.
Not only are there moons in opposition so are there Mercury’s, this is certainly no meeting of the minds here. They may see one another’s point of view but they will never fully understand one another, oppositions in synastry aren’t as difficult as the squares in which one planet struggles for dominance over the other. With oppositions you can see one another but total understanding uh not so much. Add to this the fact they both have Mercury Retrograde in there natal charts. People with Mercury Retrograde in there natal charts often have difficulty expressing themselves, so here we have 2 people with Mercury in 2 opposing signs and they are retrograde. Justin has Mercury is innovative Aquarius, (the lungs are ruled by Mercury, Aquarius rules television and the internet so nice to see how he was discovered) Mercury in Aquarius is prone to thinking they know everything, they think they are smarter then everyone and well Selena has Mercury in Leo, she needs to grand stand and be the star of the show. Perhaps Justin doesn’t permit that because he is too busy being right.
Next up we have Venus the planet of love, how we seek love, express love and wish to enjoy love. Poor Justin has Venus in Pisces he is looking for the merging of souls, love that involves sacrifice, love that is dreamy and all encompassing whereas Selena has Venus in Leo; she is looking for love that is like the movies, dramatic love, passionate love. Leo is rather selfish and all about Leo, wherever Leo is in a chart that planet is prone to being self dominated.
Now let’s look at the aspects
Her Sun in Cancer Squares His moon in Libra; her identity threatens his emotional security and vice versa. They probably struggle to dominate one another.
Mars Square Mars; Mars is the God of War and rules our determination and our sex drive; Selena has Mars in Taurus slow, earthy but VERY stubborn when it comes to change and Justin has Mars in Aquarius; he is a lot more free sexually, has an innovative way of doing things. This indicates a war of the wills, he wants it is his way, she wants it her way and again they fight for dominance. Aquarius and Taurus both being fixed signs indicated they are both FIXED or stuck in their way of doing things.
May I add I’m sure the sex is great with all of this break up to make up and friction makes for some pretty amazing passion. Squares and oppositions= friction friction= passion
Selenas Moon in Aries also Squares Justin’s Uranus very tightly. This indicates instability. Uranus in synastry always indicates instability. Her sun also opposes his Uranus planet of rebellions this is also indicative of sudden break ups to make ups, the fight for dominance also shows with her Mars in Taurus opposing his Pluto in Scorpio. Is she running things or is he running things. Perhaps they are taking turns, something I’m sure she particularly doesn’t care for.
Some interesting House overlays
Each of their Suns fall in the others 8 house; 8th house rules obsessions, sex, the darker side of each other. They probably probe one another psychologically and are able to read one another. Add to this the fact that they are both water signs and naturally intuitive.
Her natal moon falls in his 5th house of love affairs and recreation, I personally like this placement they enjoy one another’s company; they probably dance when they are alone and listen to music. Moon does rules fluctuations so this placement obviously comes with ups and downs. Good luck to both of them may they enjoy it while it lasts.

A quick look at Selena and Justin’s Composite
I have been told you can have amazing synastry but it all comes down to the composite
On a nicer note they have Composite Sun in Taurus forming a sextile to the composite moon in Cancer; Sextiles give a general sense of ease and understanding. There is some debate as to whether the Signs are actually used in composite charts but in any event there is harmony between there wants and their needs. The composite moon also sextiles the composite Venus indicating they enjoy one another’s company; this is a nice aspect that can even indicate they are friends as well as lovers. Hmm and that is where it ends, this is not an easy love with Saturn Squaring Venus planet of love. This over time can indicate at its worst a cold love. You do not want Saturn the planet of restriction in square aspect on the planet of love especially in a composite chart. Also Uranus opposes the composite moon indicating feelings are unstable, on and off again. And may I have a drum roll please, composite Pluto opposes the couples Sun, Mercury and Venus shall I say power struggles galore. This relationship is about power, sex, transformation and destruction with three planets in the composite 8th house. The moon in the 10th is indicative of their emotions out front for the entire world to see. The 10th house rules reputation and honors and in a way how others see you. Mars planet of aggression is in the 7th house, lots of fighting here. And you never really want a 4th house Uranus. The 4th house is the deepest part of a chart; it also represents your home base and your family. You never want the instability of Uranus there. While this couple may at often times be blindly optimistic with Jupiter in the 1st house I am unable to give them my astrological blessing; but really this is what Hollywood couple legends are made of. xo
