How to determine the ruler of the houses in the houses

Last week I found myself telling my coworker “I didn’t give birth to anyone here. No one came out of my vagina” Vulgar yes, truthful hmmm yes. Two weeks in a row on my day off I was contacted to inquire why two of my grown 30 & over coworkers weren’t at work, another time I was asked when will “so & so” be back; truth be told I had the answers but I just reply “I’m not anyone’s mother” I had to laugh when someone was informing me of someone else’s bad behavior they said, “they never do that when you are around”. I yell like a lot of moms, I suppose… (I don’t believe in yelling at small children PS) I have taken 5 days off due to exhaustion and just to catch up on life, relaxing, yoga, cooking, writing (Nourishing my Natal 5th house Sun) when I decided to whip up some tasty cake pops and handmade chocolates-pictures to follow- for people at work & I thought my god I’m like a mother.

Ya see Cancer the sign of mom-rules my 6th house-the house of work. That means Cancer is on the 6th house cusp. Furthermore the ruler of my 4th house (4th house rules home) is placed in my 6th. Coworkers feel like family(I’m blessed in that sense), work feels like home, perhaps for other people with this combination; they live at the place they work. This thought has brought me to my latest post.

The rulers of the houses in the houses.
It is an integral part of reading a natal chart a detail a lot of people may leave out but one that holds a lot of information. It can show you how someone expresses love how they earn a living, what they value, where they find joy.

I will walk you through it, this is more of an informative post than my typical rant after all I want you to be able to read your own chart and come back and chat with me about what you find.

Here is the natal chart:

The Natal Chart consists of 12 houses you can read about them here

A beginners Guide to reading your natal chart

Every house represents an area of life
There are 10 planets (Yes I’m counting Pluto now and always)
The planets in the houses are how you act out those areas of your life. For instance if you have Mars in the 4th house (home of family). Mars is an aggressive planet so you may have a lot of fights with family, put it in the 6th (house of daily activity) disagreements with coworkers, put it in the 10th (career house) your chosen profession may be a police officer.

This is beginner’s stuff you can read my guide here on how to read your natal chart

A beginners Guide to reading your natal chart

And then aside from the houses and the planets there is a sign “on the cusp” or the outer wheel of the natal chart. People often become alarmed when they see an empty house but a house is never really empty it is infused with the sign on the cusp

See that arrow I have Aquarius on my 1st house cusp

20140118-115603.jpg

Start with your rising sign, this is very important, it’s the sign on the 1st house cusp, the first house is you, your appearance, your mannerisms, the way you look, how the world sees you. For instance: I have Aquarius rising, Aquarius is ruled by Uranus. Uranus is found in my 8th house the 8th house rules the occult, the taboo, deep probing psychoanalysis, life and death, transformation. Anyone who knows me knows I’m intense, that I’m continuously on a cathartic process for lack of a better phrase.

Next I go to my 2nd house; the sign on the cusp is Aries See arrow:

is ruled by Mars, Mars is placed in the 3rd house. The 2nd house rules your values, how we earn money, how we spend money, with the ruler (Mars) placed in the 3rd a house that rules communication, writing, mental capabilities, and travel you can tell I earn my 2nd house money via 3rd house activities, I blog, I literally work in the travel industry and I will add that I fiercely (Mars/Aries) stand up for what I believe in.

Here are the rulerships of each sign to help you. This is taken from a wonderful book for beginners with beautiful illustrations Called Astrology A Complete Illustrated Guide to The Zodiac by Molly Hall

20140118-120441.jpg

We can see I’m a Cancer, moody, sensitive, and protective, I like to bake; I own a home –all those Cancer things-
My Sun is in the 5th house, the 5th house is dramatic, theatrical, and home to hobbies, dating, romance, fun and risk taking.
Combined you can surmise I’m a cancer that enjoys acting, I m happiest when going to the movies, taken chances, love is a central theme in my life, self expression is a major theme in my life. If I had children they would no doubt be the end all and be all for me.
Now take that a step further and look at the sign on the cusp of the 5th house. Gemini is on my 5th house cusp.

So if the 5th house rules; romance, risk taking self-expression the house the ruling planet is in will show where I have romances, take chances, expression myself. Gemini rules the 5th, the ruler of Gemini is in mercury, mercury is placed in the 6th house; the 6th house rules our daily lives, our work, our coworkers, our pets, and our routine. Put it all together and I express myself daily, I find romances with coworkers, I take chances when it comes to my job. You can do this will all the houses, you should do this with all the houses it will give you a clearer picture of the natal chart potential.

If it is difficult for you to read the signs if you are using astro.com or another software they give you a list of the signs on the cusps that looks like this

20140118-121638.jpg

I have 6th house cusp in Cancer, this makes my moon the ruler; the moon is placed in my 2nd house. And while my 6th house is infused with Cancer energy I defend my coworkers, yes I bake for them if they call at 2am I answer the phone but with the ruler of the 6th being in the 2nd I love to think of this simply; I go to work to earn money. I’m not in any way shape or form identified by my job.

Even if houses seem empty my 7th house (it isn’t Saturn reaches it from the 6th) but there isn’t a planet in there. I still have Leo on the cusp and this infuses the 7th house with Leo like energy. The 7th house rules partnership. I attract Leo types. I like a macho man, a man with a bit of show, someone I can adore. The Sun rules Leo, my sun is in the 5th house of-hobbies, romance, children, love, this indicates I marry for love, I marry someone I can have fun with, I marry someone where there is continuous romance, business partners become Lovers etc.
I once met a man that said to me and I quote: “I am only getting married so I can have children, why else would anyone get married” I almost fell over; I want to marry for nothing short of real deal romantic love. But I have the ruler of the 7th in the 5th…he has the ruler of the 7th in the 4th house of family. You get married to start a family. I love when Astrology is beautiful like that, like a perfect pattern.
Checking the ruler ships also give you insight to family dynamics. The MC or 10th house rules the father (and career path). Look at my 10th house I have Sagittarius on the 10th house cusp, 10th house rules “other countries” my father was not from this country. Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, Jupiter is placed in my 4th house which rules the mother…I can’t quite put my finger on it but I think this has something to do with my mother playing both roles; she was my mother and my father.

Let me know what you find in your natal potential xo

Eternally Child Like

I recently did a reading for someone that is on her third marriage prior to her 1st Saturn return. This means she has been married 3 times prior to turning 30. This is amazing to me. Like I haven’t found one person that I believe I want to share FOREVER with. I mean forever is a long time and somehow she has found 3 people. Ha-ha In any event it brought up the fact that I often feel behind, like I’m late to do everything. I have Mars in Taurus, recently I read Mars being the planet of war doesn’t fair well in the sign of love, Taurus being rules by the planet Venus. Taurus is indeed the slowest of the earth signs so I tend to take the long route. However once I make my mind up to do something (Mars represents action) it is with precision and determination. This can be reflected in going back to college at 25 or not moving out of my parental home till 35. However I graduated with a 4.0 and when I did move out I dig purchase my dream apartment. Taurus doesn’t do things ½ ass. I often feel I’m behind and in a way I’m slow to mature. I honestly do not know if I will ever consider myself mature. Maturity is not to be confused with responsible. I’m very responsible but mature uh not so much.
I went to psychic once; she knew nothing about astrology and said to me “you have the mind of someone that is 100 but the emotional maturity of an adolescent”. She was right, I concede. I have an Aries moon, planets placed in Aries are the least evolved, Aries is the 1st sign in the zodiac, it is where we begin. Impulsive and yes immature, we can act out and throw tantrums. Planets placed in Aries lack maturity, they confuse wants with needs and have a sense of urgency with just about everything. (I think this stems from emotional needs not being met during childhood). I also have the Sun placed in the 5th house; the 5th house represents children and first loves. I’m forever child like, I want to play and have fun. My heart is eternally youthful; they say people with a 5th house sun will have 1 or no children. I never quite understood that, perhaps due to the maturity that is required to raise children, the strength and patience (God knows an Aries moon doesn’t have any of the above). Katie Holmes has this placement, I often wonder if Suri will be her one and only. I also have a retrograde chart ruler. My rising sign is Aquarius, planets in Aquarius are not bound by time constraints, they do not carry a 5 year plan. I always feel that there is an infinite amount of time to do certain things. I do not conform to 5 year plans and the only time that I feel behind are in those moments I compare my life to the lives of others. I consciously have been trying to not compare my life to other people because truth be told; on the outside looking in there isn’t another person’s life I would truly want to live other then my own. With Aquarius as my rising sign this makes Uranus my chart ruler, Uranus is in retrograde motion indicating I take the long route. Add to this the fact that Uranus is the rebel of the zodiac… not exactly the most settled of the signs. Combined with my Grand fire trine involving my 10th house of career, 2nd house of finances and 6th house of daily activity in typical fire fashion I just want to go go go!

20130504-143234.jpg
Lastly I have a unaspected Venus in Gemini; Gemini rules the 3rd house of childhood education and grammar school. Gemini is a playful sign that is the magician of the zodiac, Gemini drinks out of the fountain of youth daily! All of that fire combined with a 5th house Sun, a retrograde chart ruler, a Moon in Aries and a Venus in Gemini no wonder I’m taking the long route. I’m smelling the flowers, skipping along taking the occasional detour while a lot of other people are on that 5 year plan. Secretly I have to pay thanks to my one earth planet Mars in Taurus, Taurus craves financial security, is fiscally responsible and perhaps it gives me solid footing to plant all my lofty and fiery dreams upon.

2013 Happy New Year…. a few weeks in advance

Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right- Aquarius Sun Oprah

I don’t profess to be Deepak Chopra the fact is I’m not relaxed, possess a disdain for yoga, and have lived off cigarettes & frozen dinners for a good portion of my life. I’m impulsive & hot-headed & will tell someone off in a New York City minute. I feel particularly stressed lately. Weighed Down by responsibilities. I had an epiphany last night that I can’t continue working, existing really under this immense pressure, internal pressure that I put myself under. I was thinking about happiness & how really it does come from within. Money really doesn’t buy happiness I realized that just recently. From designer handbags to a house to a new car monetary things can only offer temporary joy.

I sat around the other day thinking: there isn’t a single thing I need or want this Christmas. I have everything how weird! But am I happy? I wouldn’t say these things make me happy, contribute perhaps but define my happiness, absolutely not. Things do not make you happy and we certainly cannot rely on other people to make us happy because when they go, when they leave; when they die our happiness goes with them. Never rely on another being for your joy. Really joy does come from within. I never really got that until now. With the Sun in the 5th house I’m always waiting on someone else to fill me up, I’m the type of person that can be surrounded by a dozen people and still fee alone. That is because happiness is not an external force nor can it be based on external circumstances.

I’m going to take a journey with in for 2013.

My New Years Eve resolution encompasses several things but mostly to schedule an activity that brings me joy once a week. We as individuals need something to look forward to, we are so often busy doing things for others, working, a lot of you raising kids, you need to set aside a day, several hours where life doesn’t consist of anyone else’s desires but your own. For me this is booking a TV show, writing, eating out, and seeing a Broadway show. I have natal Sun in 5th house my happiness stems from creation.

Look to your natal house placement of the sun and make up your mind to feed it in 2013. Nourish yourself. Sun in the 4th house; prepare some lovely desserts, if you have Sun in the 3rd take a new class, Sun in the 11th house join a new association with like-minded individuals. Its time…

This is definitely one idea I will incorporating this New Year. Share some of your ideas and I will post them

memory-jar-2The above image was taken from http://steamykitchen.com/19992-memory-jar.html

they as well as several other websites suggest each time something great happens to you write it down and insert it into the memory jar and open the jar the following New Years!!! I love this idea!

The Fifth House Sun

The last few days I feel as though I’m drowning, I’m weighed down by meaningless tasks and I have 0 escape from my daily existence. Having given up most of my vices I have nowhere to catapult myself in my time of need. Quit smoking Check. Gone are the days of over drinking Check Said farewell to a plutonic love Tata and am slowing coming to after a year or so of licking my own wounds and learning the art of self-preservation. Trying to be better not bitter that he chose someone that’s idea of creativity is making paper plate snowmen and the only depth she possesses lingers somewhere in the bottom of a Nutella can. Oh the joys of rice crispy treats!

Did I mention the 5th house is also home to competitions. You want to win in all matters of the heart, even if you don’t like someone, if they don’t like you the pain is just the same.

The fifth house Sun in astrology is home to first loves, the heart, joy, pleasure, gambling, risk, sports, and leisure it is the place we go to let our hair down and have a good time. The problem arises when the good times have come to a halt or are temporarily put on hold. I have been working 11 days straight and am inundated with practical tasks; doing wash, waiting on hold with Time Warner to fix my internet which has suddenly stopped working, I’m earth deficient my personality lacks practicality. Each clock I own has a wildly different time; 5:00, 11:00 I laugh when I get a compliment on my watches thinking god forbid someone should ask the time. Fall Back Spring Ahead…eventually the time will be right.

The only time that counts is the time I spend having fun and when things begin to get dull I start to suffocate. I really think Fiona Apple Mistake was written for me.

The 5th House Sun is home to risk taking; I went ahead and kissed someone insainly inappropriate this week just to feel alive. I enjoy the feeling of free falling, not knowing where you will land. God it has been so long since I felt that way. The fifth House is Home to love affairs, I’m impulsive in love it has to be instant and yes like Katy Perry sings “cinematic and dramatic with a perfect ending”.

Sun in the 5th house possesses a strong romanticism the thought of true love never quite far from mind. The likelihood of losing yourself in someone an all too familiar reality.

I want to lose myself in you but the last time I lost myself in someone I almost didn’t find my way back

A danger exists in caring too much, having your entire self-esteem wrapped up in a relationship, a man, looking outwardly for validation. Last week I actually felt whole like I’m fucking fabulous, I’m no longer that glass ½ empty person longing for someone to fill me up. I really believed I mastered the nourishment of my 5th house sun. Pouring my creativity and passion into pursuits outside of romantic encounters. This blog for instance, writing the monthly horoscopes, or working on various TV shows. It’s the in-between time the in the meantime that is painful. Im fighting hard to not get lost in a bottle of Sangria blasting Natalie Merchants The Living while dancing around my living room

“The Lovers I have gambled and lost Count my mistakes whatever the cost” Natalie Merchant

The Fifth House Sun rules children or the child within, I have often wondered why I feel immature in relation to my peers. The one plus I suppose is they say individuals with a 5th house sun are eternally child-like. We have an effervescent spirit that resides in us. We want to play and create. As I check my email I see Wheel of Fortune has contacteded me for an interview. I ll be sure to buy a vowel even if it cost me $5000.00 But I really look forward to the day Im free falling, putting my heart on the line and can declare to someone worthy: Im all in! Now that is the greatest risk of all

Winning! And the Astrology of Charlie Sheen

My Updated Post as of 2015 re: Charlie Sheen can be read here :

http://starsmoonandsun.com/2015/11/19/a-charlie-sheen-update/

He is messy yet somehow endearing and brings to the forefront of my mind questions like, how is it as a society we stand by and watch this man self destruct. Even more than that, buy tickets to his one man self destruction tour at places such as Radio City Music Hall. Charlie was born under a Virgo Sun on September 3, 1965 and if the internet is correct at 10:48 PM in New York, NY. The Virgo sign in itself rules the 6th house in astrology which encompasses; small pets, daily routine, work and health HABITS. Habits keyword and quite obviously a case of habits going arise. Virgos are nothing if not consistent . With Charlie Making his way onto TMZ.com again, the idea of his astrology and utter immortality have peaked my interest.

5th House Emphasis

Charlie’s Virgo Sun is in his 5th house….Awww so is mine! I feel a sense of comradery with those that have a 5th house Sun. Our longing to create something, the 5th house is naturally ruled by Leo. Home to “I Create” any Sun placed in 5th will have a dramatic flair and Lioness tendencies. Needing to be the center of attention, to feel the pulse of those around us. The 5th house rules children, creative abilities and speculation such as; gambling. There is some amount of risk involved with the 5th house. We are risk takers. Jump in take a chance. I’ll try anything once. You only live once are Sun in 5th house mottos. Charlie as we can see is all about taking risks. In his 5th house are also 2 major players in the zodiac. Pluto planet of transformation, death and rebirth and Uranus planet of surprise. These 2 transformative planets are conjoining his Sun and each other. The Sun as I have discussed in previous posts is the identity, the ego. Uranus is the unexpected, surprise and rebellion and Pluto is death, transformation and rebirth. Being that they are all in the same house and in the same sign this is a conjunction. Almost as if the Sun, Pluto and Uranus are holding hands. They are used simultaneously. They work in unison. These are MAJOR players in the zodiac. Uranus placed in 5th house usually indicates unexpected or unplanned pregnancies. We look to the 5th house to see if and how many children you will have. I imagine Charlie has gotten many a girl pregnant besides the 5 he is believed to have with former High school girlfriend, ex wife Aquarian Denise Richards (love her) and other ex Leo Brook Mueller. Also Pluto the planet of death and rebirth Pluto , sometimes means birth figuratively as well as literally..as in giving birth to a child or children. With Charlie’s Sun conjoining Uranus this means he appears radical. Scratch that he IS radical, a true renegade, he bucks the system. He hates the system. He is a true individual. I have natal Uranus trine Sun, this makes for a lighter aspect. I’m comfortable with my uniqueness but the conjunction amplifies this to the next level. You may notice individuals with Sun conjoining Uranus seem disheveled; perhaps there style of dress is messy and speech is erratic. They may appear that way however they are prone to sudden flashes of insight and genius. Tiger Blood, perhaps with a sober mind this may have been conveyed and understood better. Ha! They live and breathe uniqueness add that to Sun conjunct Pluto and he has the inept ability to look at someone and see through them. They live in extremes, Pluto is a powerful force and these people are brimming with intensity. Very sexual in nature can almost be compulsive. Hmmm Hookers and Goddesses anyone?

Neptune the planet of Addiction and Escapism and Mars the Planet of Sex

Here is how Neptune works, where it is placed you will have escapism tendencies. Neptune is prominent in the charts of many people that struggle with addiction, Demi Moore, Whitney Houston; Johnny Cash…the list goes on and on. Natal Neptune in 4th house perhaps you had an addict in your parental home, Neptune in the 5th child with drinking issues, well here is Charlie with Neptune planet of escapism in his 6th house of Daily Habits. It doesn’t get any more literal than that. Sometimes when reading a natal chart you don’t have to seek, surf and dig the answers are right there. The planet Neptune as I stated represents escapism and it is conjoins his planet Mars. Mars represents your sex drive, his Mars is placed in Scorpio, it is at home there. Sex appeal full throttle. Sex drive is amplified. A person with Mars conjunct Neptune may fantasize more so about a perfect partner and how can I say this delicately…I can’t: they like porn. They like the idea of this perfect woman. Neptune colors the way people see you, Neptune rules glamour. Having Neptune conjunct Mars indicates others see him and are drawn to him sexually. And with them both located in the 6th house of daily habits sex and porn is most likely on his daily “to do “list.

Jupiter and Venus: Making money

Jupiter and Venus are considered the great benefices in astrology. They represent what comes easy where you like to spend money, how you earn money and where you are just plain lucky. How nice it must be to have Jupiter in the 2nd house, the 2nd house is the money you earn (Jupiter in the 8th house states you earn money via spouse or inheritance) Jupiter in the 2nd house makes earning money just easy for you. Ca-ching. Opportunities easily present themselves it’s almost like cash has dropped down from the sky and into your lap. And with all he gets Charlie is probably very giving. He makes money easily and likes to spend it lavishly as well. How much coke was in that brief case reported by www.TMZ.com. Venus in the 6th house indicates you can make money easily as well through some sort of daily activity. Venus is placed in Libra sign of rulership making it very strong  and possibly can be overindulgent with women, food, drink and sex and it is placed in his 6th house of habits….notice a theme for Charlie Sheen.

The 8th house moon, Loneliness an addiction

With a Sagittarius moon it is often said that the only thing a Sagittarius loves more than you is his freedom. They are eternal wanderers and in a way they belong to the world. I read in “The Only Way  to Learn about Astrology Volume 1 “with the Moon in Sagittarius there is a tendency to gamble, if not with possessions then with health, career and social position”. They are freedom seekers, easily feeling fenced in. However with his moon snug in the sad 8th house home to transformation, psychoanalysis and sex we can surmise that just as the moon changes in size every night he will experience some great heights and lows emotionally. Prone to emotional depths and sorrow. While he is a freedom seeker by sign…placed in the darkness of the 8th house he may experience bouts of loneliness. I think of this as being surrounded by 20 so called good friends on a Yacht in the South of France and yet you still feel lonely. Like no one really gets you. Fuck you may as well be on Gilligan’s Island. That is 8th house Moon to me.

In Closing I bet Charlie adores his children (Sun in 5th), Enjoys love affairs, taking risks and all that comes with a 5th house Sun. I would surmise he is abundantly generous (Jupiter in 2nd house) and most definitely free spirited (Sagittarius moon and Gemini rising) He should never remarry and wrap up his equipment frequently ;)( Pluto & Uranus in the 5th) He has a ride till you die spirit and while I won’t be buying any tickets to his one man Self Destruction Tour, if he asked I wouldn’t mind partying the night away with another 5th house Sun Hey after all you only live once!
