The Progressed Moon in the Natal Houses

The exhaustion I have experienced lately has been debilitating. I am a person who runs quite high energetically, born with a Grand Fire Trine and a Cardinal T Square. I am always going, doing, and working now; I am collapsing, sleeping, and resting.  Someone referred to this period as “The Sacred Pause.”  You know that gestation cycle before you birth something new.  Welcome to the progressed 12th house moon cycle. Only 656 days left.

I often caution clients that this is a period of endings and letting things go; it’s not a good time to get engaged, start a job, or launch a million projects. Things likely won’t take off until the progressed moon reaches your 1st house. This is the rest-and-reset progression, but I was not fully prepared for the anger that would accompany it. I feel like I am in a spiritual timeout chair. Welcome to your season of rest and recovery, Danielle. I know one thing for sure in this life: it is always best to work with the energy at hand, rather than push up against it. “Know when it’s your season,” I often advise my clients. A Byron Katie quote comes to mind: “All the advice you ever gave was for you to hear”.

The Progressed Moon stays in a house for about 2½ years, showing us where we are emotionally invested during that time. Some astrologers combine the sign the progressed Moon is in with the house it is in for a complete picture; I prefer to consider only the house placement. You also want to consider your natal moon sign and aspects to see how well you adjust to the progressed Moon you are currently experiencing. My natal moon is in Aries, trine Saturn and Neptune, so I do not relate or respond well to the progressed moon drowning in the 12th house. Perhaps if I had planets in the 12th house of my natal chart or my Moon was in hard aspect to Neptune, I would have fared better with this progression.

It is important not to undermine the Moon’s progressed house placement. I often take note of the progressed Moon’s location during sessions, and I specifically look for the progressed Moon in the 12th house. If a client has lots of fresh starts coming via transit, but I see the progressed Moon in the 12th, I know those new beginnings will likely be accompanied by the death of an old self or the passing away of things, people, or situations that were once important.

Progressed Moon in the First House

This is your fresh start; if you have been wanting to move, get married, or change careers, now is the time. The progressed moon in the first house marks a period of taking inventory of what will make you happy and what is emotionally fulfilling to you. You are motivated and reenergized after experiencing the haze and confusion of the 12th house Moon. The Progressed Moon can also be a time when you change your appearance. It is GO time after releasing the job, the marriage, and the way of life that no longer resonated when the Moon progressed through the 12th

Progressed Moon in the Second House

The Progressed Moon in the 2nd House is a time when you start planning for retirement or have decided to purchase a home. This is all about your long-term financial security. You may be risk-averse, more deliberate, and more calculating in your investments. If you have spent lavishly, this is a time to consider the financial consequences. You may also benefit financially from a woman, this can be a spouse, a confidant, or a mother. Financial security is important now, though you may experience financial fluctuations over the next 2.5 years.

Progressed Moon in the Third House

The Progressed Moon in the 3rd house fastens the pace of life after the methodical 2nd house Moon progression. You may socialize a lot, spend time with siblings, or engage in community organizations. You may want to go back to school and learn new things, or you may decide to host workshops and share your knowledge with others. This is a light-hearted placement that suggests travel, learning, and connecting with others.

Progressed Moon in the Fourth House

The Progressed Moon in the 4th House emotionally ties you to home and family. This can suggest a move or a time when the focus point in your life is those closest to you. Maybe you are taking care of elders or small children, or it can also suggest a time when you are emotionally reserved and low-key.  Others may move in and out of your home if you do not physically move. The fourth house is also associated with midnight and is one of the more private houses, so you may feel reclusive or withdrawn over the next two or so years.

Progressed Moon in the Fifth House

The progressed moon in the 5th house is a period where you will feel reenergized after experiencing the reclusiveness of the progressed fourth house moon. You will likely seek out artistic forms of expression, such as taking a painting class, attending a writers’ workshop, or signing up for a cooking class. You may pick up new hobbies and other modes of self-expression. This progressed Moon can also signify pregnancy or time spent with children. The fifth house is the house of pleasure and joy, and this is what you will likely experience over the 2 and ½ year period the progressed moon travels through your 5th house. The 5th house is also the house of casual dating, so it is a great time to put yourself back out there after a period of rest.

Progressed Moon in the Sixth House

The progressed moon in the 6th house is linked to health, work, and daily activities. The 6th house is where we find ritualistic behavior. Many years ago, the progressed Moon entered my 6th house, and I quit smoking. I was not even conscious/aware that this progression was taking place; I just decided to quit. While I had a positive experience, others may experience issues with gut health and digestion during this progression. Since the 6th house is associated with our jobs and daily activities, you may find yourself working more with women and becoming emotionally invested in your career. Watch the tendency to be a workaholic, and embrace healthy habits, routines, and fitness.

Progressed Moon in the Seventh House

The progressed Moon in the 7th house brings a desire to connect emotionally with others. This is NOT a progression I see in marriage, despite what other astrologers may say. I would like to see a transit that coincides with this progression before making a prediction about marriage or engagement. It does bring the desire to meet others halfway. With the seventh house being naturally governed by Libra, you may find that not only do you have the desire to connect with others, but you may also have the desire to step up your aesthetic, invest in your appearance, and surround yourself with more elegant and cultured types. This is also a time when you are emotionally invested in partnerships of all kinds, including business partnerships.  Generally speaking, it also makes you more agreeable and willing to compromise,

Progressed Moon in the Eighth House

The progressed Moon in the 8th house is a highly transformative period. If we think about the 8th house, it is governed by Scorpio, the alchemist of the Zodiac, the sign we associate with death and rebirth. You will likely find yourself in therapy during this progression; you may face old traumas, deal with the death of a loved one, or recognize your own self-destructive behavior. The 8th house is the house that corresponds to death and wills/estates, so someone may pass away during this progression, and you may be left on the receiving end of a financial gift, or you may have to sort through another’s estate. You will feel everything intensely now and may find you are drawn to darker psychological types.

Progressed Moon in the Ninth  House

The progressed Moon in the 9th house will bring relief from the heaviness of the progressed Moon in the eighth house; you may feel the sun has finally come back out, all the heaviness has lifted, and you are feeling optimistic and explorative. When the progressed Moon enters the ninth house, you may have the desire to pursue a higher education, travel, live abroad, or finally publish a novel. You are likely feeling adventurous during this progression, and you may also develop an interest in the outdoors, such as camping and white-water rafting. This can also be a time of spiritual exploration, where you seek knowledge on how to work with universal laws and develop a stronger spiritual practice.

Progressed Moon in the Tenth House

The progressed Moon in the 10th house reflects a time when a person is heavily invested in their career and social image. They may receive public recognition; this is one of my fame placements. With that in mind, remember the progressed Moon placement often brings shifting circumstances, so with the progressed Moon in the 10th house, your social standing may fluctuate greatly over the 2 and ½ year period. Now is the time to put your work out into the world while also developing a thick skin; not everyone will like what you have to offer, and that is alright.

Progressed Moon in the Eleventh House

The progressed Moon in the 11th house is a period of high social activity. The 11th house is the house of like-minded friends and networking. Though it has never been my experience, I have an aversion to groups; this placement can suggest a time to get together and connect with others who share similar political beliefs or career aspirations. It is great for starting and connecting with any women’s organizations. You may find you are emotionally connecting with others and expanding your social circle. It is surely a placement for networking and gathering. If you are looking for a new social circle, it is time to put yourself out there; say yes to the invite, join the club, and be open. Enjoy this period while it lasts because it is a full stop when the progressed Moon enters the 12th house

Progressed Moon in the Twelfth House

The progressed Moon in the 12th house, as I mentioned earlier, is your rest-and-reset progression. I cannot express how strong the desire is to just sleep and daydream. I have never experienced such a level of confusion and uncertainty in my life, and I am challenged to lean into it and trust the process more deeply than I have before. It is important to honor the cycles we are in, and this is one to not push but to soften, to let yourself off the hook, to give up doing and embrace just being. Do not set a list of demands or expectations, just embrace the moment. Don’t commit to many things; this is a progression where you are running on energy conservation mode. Embrace spiritual modalities. I have been taking sound healing courses; for others, you may want to study Reiki, meditation, or dream journaling. Embrace the sacred pause, the not-knowing, the uncertainty, and the spiritual blindness; when the progressed Moon enters the 1st house, it will be off to the races, feeling energized and celebrating fresh starts and new beginnings.
